And a lazy Sunday, too
Rich called around 10:30 last night and I spoke to him on the phone for half an hour or so. He deploys to Iraq in about 2-1/2 weeks, to a base north of Baghdad. He'll be over there doing trauma surgery for the next third of a year.

We slept in until around 8:30. The early part of the morning was spent doing laundry and other odds and ends. Sometime after 11, we headed out. We walked over to the town center, where an arts festival was taking place, and browsed for a while. After that we walked over to the Riversdale Mansion, where they were having "kids" day. Kelly and I took a "kids" tour of the mansion house. In the 6 years I've lived here, I'd never been inside, but today, I finally went in.

We took an early afternoon nap and were awakened by Zeke, who was throwing up. Of course, I became anxious, but he seems to be doing fine now, and he was up and eating just a little while ago.

Late this afternoon, we headed over to downtown Silver Spring to walk around for a little while. I stopped in a Whole Foods while there, to pick up some additional groceries. I made us ravioli for dinner. After dinner, Kelly headed back home.

I spoke to Mom and Dad this evening. I also spoke to Dan for a while this evening. Dan sounded pretty sick on the phone.

My lunch is packed and I'm planning to (finally!) get to the gym tomorrow morning so I'm trying to get to bed bed 8:20. I'm also trying to finish up The Last Lecture, but I probably won't actually finish it until tomorrow. And I'm hoping to finish up In Joy Still Felt this week.

Lazy Saturday
It's been 3 or 4 weeks since Kelly and I have had a free weekend, but we planned to have a quiet, relaxing one today. I stayed in bed until 8:30 or 9 AM, I think. Kelly was already up when I finally pulled my way out of bed. The weather was warm--the first really warm morning of the year. We decided to take advantage of it. We grabbed the basketball and headed over the local park to shoot some hoops. I was terrible at first, but slowly managed to get my game back. Kelly was very good, but as she pointed out, she had a hoop in her driveway growing up.

After, Kelly went to the gym and I did some reading and worked on the computer. Around 12:30, we headed to lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. We'd invited A.J. and Denisse. A.J. was off playing tennis and our lunchtime was too early for Denisse. I had a good chicken salad sandwich, but it was way too much food for me.

We walked back to Kelly's, collected her laundry and then headed up to my house. At 4 PM, we took Zeke to his regularly scheduled vet appointment. He got his shots, and impressed Kelly (and the vet) by his strength when he tried to keep himself in his carrier once at the vet. Everything is good, but he needs to lose some weight. He weights about 16.5 lbs and should be around 13 lbs. Much of the weight gain is due to his special diet. Beginning this afternoon, therefore, I started him on "meals" rather than leaving his dry food out for him. He gets 2/3rds of a cup in the morning, and 2/3rds in the evening.

We were supposed to stick around from 5-8 PM to wait for the cable guy to "cap the line". We spent some of that time reading parts of The Last Lecture to one another. Sometime around 4:30, I noticed a cable truck across the street, but no one ever stopped by. By 6 PM, I was a little impatient. I checked the cable, and wouldn't you know it!--they had capped the line--and I now only get the local channels, as I requested. I was annoyed enough, however, to call Comcast and ask them why I had to stick around if no one had to come in the house. They didn't have an answer for that, of course.

We celebrated by driving up the lake and taking a walk around it. Usually, we walk around twice, but there were dark clouds looming close by so we kept it at a single loop. From there we headed to the grocery store to do the shopping.

At home this evening, I made french bread pizza, which turned out okay. We watched last night's The Office and we both agree that the show is going downhill. It's depressing.

I wanted to take the telescope out tonight. Saturn is visible and it would be great to get a look at it, but it was still cloudy when I last checked.

Graveyard shift
It's been a long day. It started at midnight, when I got up in order to do a server upgrade. All told, that took 4 hours and I finally got back to bed between 4 and 5 AM. I slept for an hour and a half or so before getting up again, grabbing breakfast and starting my day. My last meeting ended around 3 PM. Once that was over, I took a break in order to mow the lawn. Since I last cut the grass, there has been a lot of rain and the grass grew taller than I've ever seen it in the 6 years that I've lived here. I think I nearly broke my mower trying to plow through it. But at least it's done, front and back, and so I'm good on the home front for another week or so.

I finally arranged for an electrician to come by next Tuesday. We played phone tag, but finally talked and I was able to get a quote ($135 total) for what I needed.

Phone call from [info]he11o_sunshine last night, but we didn't get to talk long because I was off to bed so early. And tonight's a repeat, only tonight, I get to sleep in 4 hours longer than last night. I'm back to my normal routine of getting up at 4:20 AM.

I'm about 140 pages through In Joy Still Felt. Going to do a little more reading before lights out.

Make-up day
Kelly and I got back to Washington early this morning, around 1 AM. It was raining when I left or L.A. and it was raining when I returned. I stayed at Kelly's last night and got home this morning. I worked from home today because (a) I got in so late last night and (b) I have to work tonight beginning at midnight. In between various work task, I managed to catch up with a few things that I couldn't do when I was gone last week. First, I canceled my cable, finally. Well sort of. Turns out it costs the same to keep Internet service and local channels as it does for just internet, so I did that. It cuts my bill by more than half. The cable guy is coming Saturday evening between 5-8 PM to cap the line.

I also called the vet to order more wet and dry food for Zeke. I headed over to pick it up early this afternoon. I also made an appointment for Zeke on Saturday at 4 PM. I called an electrician about some work I need done and have been playing phone tag this afternoon, but hope to get him out Saturday as well. And I even managed to squeeze in a haircut.

And speaking of haircut, with all of the rain we've gotten my yard is overrun by long grass. But I have to wait for it to dry out before I can cut it.

I have to return the cable boxes at some point, and then we're transferring my Tivo unit and service to Kelly's house. Probably do that next week.

A lot of junk mail over the course of the week, but some good "live" mail too The latest issue of SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN as well as the June issue of F&SF. I got my HHonors Silver card for 2008/09 in the mail today. The bill from my accountant was there too, along with my AOPA Pilot magazine.

I'm off to bed now (yes, it's not even 6 PM) because I have to be up at midnight to do a server upgrade.

(I realize that I have not yet caught up on Saturday or Sunday yet, to say nothing of comment on the nebula award winners, but I will as soon as I have a chance to breathe.)

Saturday evening/Sunday
Kelly's flight was delayed 2 hours yesterday, but I picked her up from Dulles at 7 PM and we headed back to her place. I think she was glad to be home because it had been a long trip for her.

We slept in this morning and then made pancakes for breakfast. After breakfast, Kelly went to the gym while I lazily read more of In Memory Yet Green. Then we packed up stuff into our cars (including my new telescope) and headed over to my house.

I was in a cleaning mood. I cleaned up the kitchen, and took piles of books from the living room and put them in the office. I mopped the floors. I emptied trash. While Kelly did her taxes, I went grocery shopping. I had to stop and get litter for Zeke and found that it was on a rather incredible sale. I got 2-14 lbs boxes of litter for $3 each. They normally cost $15.99 each. Crazy! I also got us stuff to make dinner. Later in the evening, we had a 3-course meal: salad with sliced tomatoes and broccoli; ravioli and pasta sauce; and apple pie for dessert. Meanwhile, I put my telescope together while Kelly did laundry. I took it outside to get it aligned. It was so cool. I managed to lose a small screw and spent about 20 minutes searching for it but to no avail. I gave up when I realized I could find an exact match at Home Depot for less than a dollar. Unfortunately, it was overcast out so I couldn't use the telescope to look at stars tonight.

I gassed up my car today (over $30!), and then, gassed up Kelly's car before she left this evening so that she could drive straight home. She left at about 8:20. I'm heading off to bed in order to get a good night's sleep.

A view into the ridiculous
After work today, I had some errands to run. I gassed up the car. I vacuumed it's interior. And I stopped at Rite Aid to pick up a few items. I needed a gallon of water. And shaving cream. And razor blades. Would you believe that razor blades at Rite Aid are now under lock and key? There they are on the shelve with all of the other stuff, but you can pull them off the shelf without getting a sales associate to unlock it for you first. (See picture).

First it was forcing people to go to the pharmacy counter to get pseudophedrine products because a tiny element of society was using those products to make meth-amphetamines. And now we need store supervision to buy razor blades? Is there an outbreak of shaving-razor assisted suicide that I am unaware of? Razor blades are already expensive ($20+ for an eight-pack). The price alone would make one think twice before buying one. But to keep them under lock and key?

Besides, what business is it of Rite Aid to protect ourselves from ourselves? To me that is the peak of the ridiculous.

Things to do today
I have a number of things to do today in preparation for the trip up to New York this weekend. I figured I'd list them here for good measure:
  • Confirm dinner reservations (this morning)
  • Get a new tie (this morning)
  • Buy more spring water (on the way home from work)
  • Do laundry (this evening)
  • Pack for the trip (this evening)
  • Don't forget GPS and EZ-Pass (this evening)
  • Gas up the car (for the first time since mid-March) (on the way home from work)
  • Clean/vacuum car (since I will have passengers) (on the way home from work)
  • Empty trash (this evening)
  • Clean dishes in sink (this evening)
  • Prepare iBook for Lisa (and don't forget to pack the iBook either) (this evening)
  • ADDED: Pack the smashing thing for Denisse (thanks to Kelly for the reminder)
  • ADDED: Flummox the UCLA baseketball game tomorrow
That's all I can think of at the moment. There may be more.

Also, I have to try and get to bed by 8:30 tonight. I've been staying up later (I was up until just after 10 PM last night for instance), which doesn't sound like much, until you understand that I still get up at 4:20 AM. I need a good night's sleep tonight because I'm still getting up early tomorrow, and because I have to drive up to New York tomorrow afternoon and need to be alert for that.

Oh yeah, and a significant streak of mine is coming to an end tomorrow, but I'll have more to say about that tomorrow. Stay tuned...

Last day of March
Wow, this year is flying by. Already April is here! Today seemed more like an April day than a March day, what with the rain showers we had. It's also opening day of the baseball season, and naturally, the Yankees/Blue Jays game was rained out. They'll play tomorrow instead. I don't feel quite as enthusiastic about it this year. I think it's because of the whole steroid controversy. I'm sure baseball will get passed it--after all, it has survived two World Wars, several smaller skirmishes, strikes, gambling controversies, etc.

I emailed my accountant this morning to make sure she received my tax papers which I sent out more than a week ago. She did. I heard from her later this morning. She's got them all entered into the computer and I should be getting a call from her tomorrow to "discuss things". Stay tuned on that one.

Mostly junk in the mail today, although I did get a birthday card from my financial adviser and his team. And I got the June issue of ASIMOV'S, which still says it's my last one, even though I sent in a renewal some weeks back.

I took my suit to the cleaners to have it cleaned and pressed. $4.50, which to me seems reasonable, but I rarely take in dry-cleaning. When I do, I always walk out feeling as though I've gotten a bargain. After all, $4.50 is barely more than a gallon of gasoline these days.

I'm 305 pages through I. Asimov.

Staying at Kelly's tomorrow instead of Wednesday. She is getting her wisdom teeth removed tomorrow. The dentist says it will be a quick and easy job, but I'm going to stay with her tomorrow just in case.

Sunday morning
I killed time last night by watching some episodes from the first season of The West Wing. In my mind, it still stands as some of the best writing ever to appear on television.

I was up around 8 AM today. Still not feeling 100% so I called AJ and Denisse and canceled lunch plans with them. I'd hate to get them sick. We're going to reschedule for another time.

I did some laundry and ran out to get a haircut. It seems like I got it cut 3 or 4 weeks ago, but I felt desperately in need of another one. There was a fairly long wait but I kept myself busy reading. Yes, I finally decided on a book. I chose David Brin's Starttide Rising, which was a winner of both the Hugo and Nebula awards back in the 1980s. I read Brin's Foundation's Triumph in the late 1990s and thoroughly enjoyed it. But the only other Brin book I've read was Sundiver, back in 1996.

Haven't done any writing yet today, but I hope to get through another 2,000 words or so before going to bed tonight.

Shopping, cleaning, writing
Considering that I've been sick the last few days, I was pretty productive today. I was up early to take my car in for servicing. I did a full compliment of grocery shopping on my way home from that. I then spent several hours doing laundry and cleaning the house, including mopping the floors in the kitchen and bathroom--something I kept putting off. I cleaned up the mess that was on the kitchen table. What a relief that was!

I got my Apple Care papers in the mail today for the new laptop. I also got my second SFWA Forum and my name appears in this one. Don't get excited, it's only there because I'm listed in the directory insert that was included as part of the issue. But it is kind of cool that my name now appears in the official SFWA directory. It's too bad I don't have voting status yet. I noted that Joe Haldeman's The Accidental Time Traveler had one recommendation for inclusion on the Nebula ballot. If I could, I would give it my recommendation as well. I loved that book. It was by far the best book I've read this year.

In fact, I'm looking for a good s.f. book to read right now and I'm having trouble coming up with one. Earlier this afternoon, I read the first few pages of Ian McDonald's Brasyl but I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for at the moment. The truth it, I have no idea what I'm looking for, but I want to read something good. Anyone have any good s.f. suggestions? (You might check my reading list first in order to see if I have read the suggestion already.)

And I did some more writing this afternoon. I did about 500 words of Graveyard Shift while at Saturn this morning. While writing this afternoon, I did another 1,600 words. That's 2,100 words on the day so far, which is better than par for NaNoWriMo. But I didn't get any writing done yesterday because went to bed so early, so I'm still about 600 words behind par overall. I may get some more writing done this evening.

Lazy Sunday
[Posted on Monday, October 22]

We all kind of slept in on Sunday morning. We headed up to IHOP for breakfast at around 10:30 AM and afterward, I dropped AJ and Denisse off at the metro station so that they could head home.

Most of the rest of the day was a very lazy one for me. I finished watching Season 4 of The Shield and naturally, immediately wanted to watch season 5. Fortunately, season 5 and 6 are available on the iTunes store, and in fact, it was far cheaper to buy them from there than order the DVDs online. So I downloaded all 21 episodes that make up seasons 5 and 6 and I watched the first 4 or 5 of them.

I cleaned up the house a bit, but didn't end up doing any laundry, as I'd planned to do. I called Doug and left him a message. (He called back but it was after I'd gone to bed.) I also called [info]he11o_sunshine and we spoke for 10 minutes or so. But I was pretty tired, having been up so late last night. I ended up climbing into bed at around 7:30 PM.

Saturday is laundry day
I was up at 8 AM, ran up to IHOP for breakfast (for the first time in a while) and then spent the rest of the day on chores. I did every scrap of laundry available in the house and it is finally all done. Every last bit of it.

I decided my bedroom needed some rearranging. It has been the same layout for 4 years now. This started with the fact that I decided to flip the mattress. I then decided I wanted new bedding. I ran out to Target for that. When I returned, I decided to rearrange the furniture in there and that too is done now. I also vacuumed the house. Thoroughly. And got rid of a ton and a half of trash. And cleaned the kitchen. Really, it was a busy day today.

I fell asleep last night listening to the Yankees game on the radio. I heard the amazing 4 run comeback they made with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th but eventually fell asleep sometime during the 13th inning, so I didn't know they ended up losing the game until this morning. They are in a back-and-forth battle in today's game against Toronto too. The road to October is paved in excitement!

My shoulders and neck are a little sore from the arms and shoulder workout yesterday, but not nearly as bad as I thought they might be. And the soreness in my legs has almost completely vanished.

Warm today. In fact, I finally turned on the AC a little while ago because, even with the windows open, it was well over 80 in the house. Supposed to be beautiful weather tomorrow. Glad I got a lot of my chores done today.

Saturday morning errands and chores
Up at about 8:30 AM and I headed out at once to get a haircut, which I've been needing for some time now. (See the before and after images below.) It was nice, I walked right into the haircut place, and was taken right away. No wait. It's not the best haircut I've ever gotten, but it's shorter and that's all that really matters as far as I'm concerned.

Before

After

I came home, grabbed the empty gas container from the garage, and then ran to the gas station to fill it up with gasoline. I needed more gas for the lawn mower. When I got back home, I popped some Boston onto my iPhone (hoping for their defeat later this afternoon) and listened to their self-titled album one and a half times while I mowed the lawn. It was the first time I'd cut the grass in a long time and there was a lot to cut. It took a little over an hour (and that included getting some kind of metal wire wrapped around the mower blade, which I had to cut off with wire-cutters). But the yard is done now, front and back, and I feel much better.

While I was mowing, the Water People came by to read my meter. I have an inside water meter and usually, they just leave me a note and I can phone in my reading using the automated phone system. This is the first time since I've lived here that the meter people caught me at home and were able to take a reading directly.

After mowing, I took a well-deserved shower, and started the first of what will probably be a half dozen loads of laundry. I also called AJ & Denisse to see if they wanted to come over this afternoon to watch the Yankees game with me.

I plan on getting some writing done today, and there are probably a few more errands I need to run, but as of noon on Saturday, I feel pretty good about what I've gotten done today.

Oh my god, it's 4 PM on Tuesday!!
I'm feeling better, but still not 100%. I had the worst ear pain of my life in the decent into BWI this morning, to the point that I literally thought blood was going to ooze from my ears. It passed and hasn't returned.

When I got home, I took some NyQuil and got into bed and slept. And slept. And slept. When I woke up it was almost 2 PM. I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight. Now it's already 4:15, the day is gone and I haven't even gotten started. It's a weird, disconcerting feeling. I'm behind in everything, including a thread of about 600 email messages involving Andy, [info]strausmouse, [info]kruppenheimer, and [info]rmstraus. And these guys are supposed to be working today!

I'm hungry so eventually I need to eat something, but it won't be here because I haven't gone grocery shopping yet. I have laundry to do. I have other errands to run. I don't know it it will happen today. Nevertheless, I expect to be okay to go into work tomorrow. We have a practice at noon on Thursday for softball. Playoffs is this coming Saturday.

Oh, while I was gone, I got [info]shunn's chapbook, An Alternate History of the 21st Century in the mail. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I've added it to my reading stack.

I've also finally updated my posts for the weekend. You can find them here, here, and here.

GTD, day 1
I was up at 7:30 AM in order to take my car into Saturn. I was scheduled to have the door check link replaced on the driver's side door. I also asked them to check my brakes, which were squeaking. They fixed my door and brakes (only the front brakes needed fixing), resurfaced the rotors, rotated the tired and balanced the wheels. All is well. I got out of there around 10:30 AM, and then headed over to Staples to run some errands.

I set aside this weekend to begin full implementation of GTD. For those of you who don't know what GTD is, you can read all about it here. It's based on a book by David Allen called, Getting Things Done and I've read the book twice. I found the theory interesting, but as always, I'm a bit skeptical. Still, it seems worth giving it a shot. A few years back, I gave it a half-hearted attempt, but in order to be fair, I'm going full-out. I've got the weekend blocked out to do my initial collecting, processing, organizing and reviewing. We'll see how it goes.

William Gibson will be signing books at Bailey's Crossroads this evening at 7:30 PM and I'm thinking that might be a nice break. I'm not certain I'll head over to the signing yet; it will depend on my progress and energy level, but the bookstore is only 18 miles away so it's not a long trip.

The weather is beautiful today. I've got just about every window in the house open. There's a nice breeze and its about 76 degrees out.

Space, education, and the second half
For those who follow these things, there has been much chatter about s.f. writer Charles Stross's blog essay in which argues why he thinks we will never colonize space. He has some good arguments, but I've been somewhat disappointed that no one has taken up the other side of the debate. And then I saw today's Washington Post Parade magazine which contained an essay by Neil deGrasse Tyson called "Why America Needs to Explore Space". It's not exactly a rebuttal of Stross's essay, but it is a good, well-thought argument for why we need to continue exploring space. The most frequently made argument against this is that we have too many problems to solve down here; here is where we should be spending our money. As Tyson points out, we do. 99 cents out of every tax dollar goes to programs other than the space program. Less than a penny goes to space. Even at the height of the Apollo missions, American's were paying 4 cents of every tax dollar to the space program.

Education columnist Jay Mathews has a novel idea to eliminate homework in grade school in place of an hour of reading each day. Apparently, studies show that prior to junior high school, homework assignments in grade school do little to improve learning or test scores. Attempting to make reading a habit--rather than a chore--during these early years might just lead to other improvements in education down the road. I like the idea, but apparently, there are some parents that would be unhappy with this. I would mean that they would actually have to read to their children.

So much for what I said I was going to do today. I didn't go downtown, didn't even do much reading. I sat at home, ordered a pizza (bad idea!), watched a movie, did some quick grocery shopping, and then eventually, watched more TV. Ugh! I feel lazy!

The first half
I allowed myself to sleep in until 9:30 this morning, which is a rare late morning for me. The house is more or less a mess, but I've felt lazy today and haven't done much about it. I have some grocery shopping to do, as well as a ton and a half of laundry, not to mention countless other little tasks. So instead, I've spent the morning reading and updating my 2007 budget with stuff that I missed while I was away in July.

We have a softball game tomorrow after work, which I am looking forward to. In the meantime, I'm trying to decide what I want to do for the rest of the afternoon. At the moment, I'm leaning towards: (1) head downtown to get something to eat. (2) Walk around the Mall for a while, find a spot to read, and sit there for a few hours reading. (3) Head back home, do the grocery shopping. (4) Start some laundry and take out the trash.

I'll let you know how the second half goes later this evening.

Various errands
Several minor things taken care of and a few left to do. I have sent away my application to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America now that I qualify for membership.

Yesterday, I called American Express to have them raise the limit on my new American Express card. I've never had an American Express card before and when it was issued to me, it had a $5,800 limit. That's about 7 times less than the limit on my Mileage Plus Visa, and it makes it difficult to use for travel. For instance, I used it at the hotel in Rome as well as for the various car services and the bill came to something like $2,400. When I tried to use it at the hotel in London, it was declined. I wasn't sure why at the time but I discovered why yesterday when I got the bill. It would have gone over the assigned credit limit. I called and explained that I used these cards for travel and the hotel bill in London alone was $4,000 and that the card is pretty much useless to me if I can't use it for travel. They doubled the limit for me on the spot, which now makes it worth keeping.

I booked my car rental through Hertz for my trip to Morro Bay at the end of this month. Ever notice all of the ridiculous fees that get added on? There's sales tax at 8.25%. There an "airport concession fee recovery" at 11.1%. There's a "customer facility charge" at $10.00. And there is a "California tourism commission assessment" at 2.5%. Everyone, it seems, gets their cut. I'm paying $39.47/day for a full-sized car, which for 4 days should come to $157.88. Instead, with all the aforementioned taxes and tariffs added in, the bill comes to $205.17 or what amounts to about a 30% tax! Or looking at it another way, I could have rented the car for an addtional day for the cost of those taxes!

Bees have built a nest behind one of the shutters outside the front door of my house. I need to get some of that spray that kills them off, then wait until nighttime to use it in order to get rid of them. I'm not looking forward to that.

Errands and toys
I was up at 8 AM this morning and headed up to IHOP for a quick breakfast. From there, I headed to Saturn to have my car services (it was time for it's 108,000 mile service, but since I'm driving up to Albany tomorrow, I wanted to make sure everything was in good working order anyway). My appointment was for 9 AM and I brought the car in at precisely 9 AM. I was very surprised when the car was returned and ready for me to take (having been washed and everything) by 9:25 AM!

From there, I headed to Circuit City. It's been 2 years since my car has had a radio, the last one being stolen while the car sat in my driveway. I figured enough time had passed for my frustration to subside, and I caved in and bought the cheapest Pioneer radio I could find. It's got a removable face plate, CD player, but best of all, has an AUX plug for my iPod so I can plug that right into my car stereo. It's also nice that there is no longer a gaping hole in my dashboard.

While there, I also bought myself a little present and had that installed in the car as well: a Garmin StreetPilot C550 navigation unit. It's pretty cool. It's got a great color display, detailed maps of the entire U.S. and Canada, it's voice activated, has BlueTooth built in so that I can make phone calls through it while I am driving, and has traffic alerts as well. I've wanted one of these for a while, ever since I got my handheld GPS unit for my birthday a year and a half ago, from [info]vickyandnorm. This compliments that one. This one is perfect for the car. That one I can take with me when I travel. Of course, I can test the new one out driving up to Albany tomorrow to visit [info]strausmouse and [info]rmstraus.

After that, I headed over to the Hair Cuttery to get a haircut, which I desperately needed. And now, I am back home, going through the instruction book for the new nav unit. I still have a few more errands to run, but the major ones are done.

Heading off to the ballgame
Hours since I have slept: 4

I'm about to head off to the Orioles/Angels game. I spent most of the morning nearly completing my travel binder, which has everything I need in it at this point. It's divided into 8 sections: (1) Air Travel; (2) Venice; (3) Cruise; (4) Rome; (5) London; (6) Customs (copies of receipts for stuff like my laptop and iPod, as well as a photocopy of my passport); (7) Reference (important phone numbers as well as photocopies of the front/back of my drivers license, credit cards and medical insurance card; (8) Consular (the most current consular information for Rome, Greece, and the UK).

I also registered my trip with the State Department.

It's a beautiful day for baseball today; I'm heading out to enjoy the game.
